CORE VALUES
Unity
We value unity. We're not individuals that happen to be on a team. We are a team that has individuals on it. We are first and foremost a team. We’re not primarily a vehicle for individuals to achieve their personal and athletic goals. We are primarily a team whose number one focus is to achieve the goals of the team. Unity and teamwork is the conviction that nobody gets there unless everybody gets there. Unity looks like not being self-promoting, making decisions with the team in mind first, believing that anything that happens to one person happens to the team. Unity also looks like protecting, praising, and encouraging each other in all situations. It looks like embracing and supporting the unique qualities of each individual. It looks like celebrating each other’s successes, and helping each other in our failures. It looks like treating others as we would like to be treated regardless of our circumstances.
Integrity
We value integrity. We strive to be a team of individuals that live and golf with integrity. Wins, losses, successes, and failures all come and go, at the end of the day all we really have to stand on is our integrity. Integrity looks like always doing the right thing no matter how difficult it is, telling the truth, not taking shortcuts, not cheating, and following through on what you say you're going to do.
Sportsmanship
We value sportsmanship. Sportsmanship looks like honoring, respecting, treating all participants - opponents, teammates, coaches, officials, bus drivers, parents - with utmost respect in both success and defeat. It looks like being happy for others in their own success and celebrating their success. It looks like demonstrating self-control towards others, and maintaining a positive attitude, and focusing on enjoyment and personal growth rather than solely on winning.
Accountability
We value personal accountability. Regardless of whether we want to be or not, we're all leaders. We're all influencing others around us in some way by our words and actions, and we're teaching those around us something about ourselves, but just as important, our families, our program, our school, our coaches, and our teammates. Personal accountability looks like being careful about the words we use and the decisions we make and it looks like involving others to help us make those decisions when necessary.
Communication
We value communication. This looks like approachability, active listening, clear and concise messaging, openness and honesty, respectful communication, and a willingness to provide and receive feedback to ensure everyone is informed, aligned, and collaborating effectively toward our goals.
Competitiveness
We value competitiveness. We are a program of competitors. We embrace competition and the challenges that come with it. We understand that one of the best ways to improve as a golfer is by competing. We also understand that by competing, we learn many lessons that transcend golf and apply to life. Competitiveness looks like a commitment to playing in golf tournaments through junior tours, and local and state associations. It looks like getting back in "the ring" when you've been knocked out and trying again because you love this game.
Process
We value the process. We care about results, but it’s not results we’re committed to. We strive to be a team committed to focusing on the process both on the golf course and in the classroom. We focus our energy only on what is controllable. This allows us the freedom to execute and improve in the present moment. Our success is based not merely on meeting goals, but being fully committed to the process and giving our best effort in the process. Process looks like our practice habits and routines on the course, as well as study habits off the course around the classroom. It looks like being disciplined on the golf course and in the classroom. In the classroom or on the golf course, if we put in the work, the results will take care of themselves.
